Zen is not a name commonly associated with smartphones. Zen Mobile started out as a feature phone maker and are now slowly expanding their smartphone line-up. Zen Mobile is a homegrown brand established in 2009 with a mission to “develop & deliver most innovative mobility products that contributes to every citizen’s growth and establishes a competitive advantage for the brand and enhances profitability.”
They are committed to serving the masses with a vision to provide them with the best and most advanced smartphones at amazingly affordable prices. The Zen Admire Glam is one such smartphone which aims to empower the masses with its smart phone capabilities at affordable prices. It is a stylish looking phone with a glossy finish and bevelled edges. The phone runs on a quad-core processor and supports up to 3G networks. The Zen Admire Glam is available at a price of Rs. 2,799/- in online stores. Let us take a closer look at the phone.
The Zen Admire Glam is made of plastic in order to keep the prices at affordable levels. The back panel is removable and it gives access to the dual SIMs, the removable battery, and the microSD card slot. The back panel features a glossy finish and carries the Zen branding in the center. The top part and the bottom parts of the back side are covered in a roughly textured pattern which provides a nice tactile feel in hand.
The primary camera and the single LED flash are located on the top-left corner at the back side. Over at the front, the 5.0” display is predominantly visible. The earpiece is located above the display and is flanked the front camera. Below the display is the three touch-capacitive Android navigation buttons which do not have a backlight.
The Zen Admire Glam has a 5.0” TFT display which features a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels giving it a pixel density of 196 PPI. The display lacks brightness and the colors appear washed out as a result. Additionally, the display is quite reflective and this affects the sunlight legibility as well.
The main camera on the Zen Admire Glam is a 3.2-megapixel shooter which features a LED flash for support during low-light photos. The camera is not the main selling point of this smartphone. Photos taken in daylight are strictly ok and low-light photos are unusable.
The images show a lot of noise and processing artifacts. The front camera shoots at 1.3 megapixels and is ok for an occasional selfie. The same camera is used for video calls and the call quality is decent.
The Zen Admire Glam is powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. It is supplemented by 512MB RAM and a built-in storage of 8GB. The storage can be increased up to 32GB via the microSD card slot. The phone supports 3G networks. The is no support for 4G. The included RAM is not enough for the smooth functioning of the phone.
The removable 1800mAh battery powers the phone for a long time between charging cycles. The 8GB storage feels insufficient and the phone slows down considerably after the storage fills up. The Zen Admire Glam Era supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth V4.0, FM radio and A-GPS wireless connectivity.
