Smart watches are a recent phenomenon. Bar a few notable exceptions, smart watches have not taken off as expected by manufacturers. But they still have not lost hope and are coming out with newer smartwatches quite regularly. Smartwatches are a great convenience and work beautifully as an extension of the smartphone. Receiving notifications and acting on them in real-time, without ever touching the phone is a big convenience. Almost all the major smartphone manufacturers have their own version of smartwatch available in the market. The new LG Watch Style is the cheaper model among the two models released together. The LG Watch Sport is the more expensive one among the two.
The LG Watch Style does not have its own cellular connectivity. It connects to the smartphone via Bluetooth and serves up notifications from the smartphone. The international version of the LG Watch Style is available for a price of Rs. 42,999/- on Amazon India’s website. Let us take a closer look at this smartwatch through this review.
The LG Watch Style is a small watch. The dial of this watch measures just 1.2” and diameter of the case is 42mm. The watch is 10.8mm thick, which is just about fine for a smartwatch. The matte frame around the screen is made of Stainless Steel 316L. The rest of the body is made of durable plastic. This is a great combination, as the metal frame give the watch some rigidity and plastic construction cuts down on weight. But the quality of plastic used at the back of the watch makes it feel a little cheap than it really is.
This is an expensive watch by any standards. The watch comes with leather belts attached, which give a more premium look. It weighs 46gms and is available in three colours; Titanium, Rose Gold and Silver. All-in-all, the design review of the LG Watch Style is a bit of a roller-coaster ride.
The LG Watch Style features a 1.2” P-OLED Screen which has a diameter of 360 pixels with a pixel display of 299 PPI. The outer diameter of the case housing the display is 42mm. The P-OLED display features the deepest blacks and is easily visible, even in direct sunlight. The display is bright and the colours on the P-OLED display are vibrant. All-in all, this is a good display to have on a smart watch.
There is no camera on the LG Watch Style.
The LG Watch Style runs on Android Wear 2.0 platform and is powered by a 1.1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor. It has 512MB RAM and 4GB storage which cannot be extended in any way. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The battery is only 240mAh. But without any sort of cellular connectivity, it should last the day with normal usage. For connecting with smartphones, it carries on board Bluetooth V4.2 (LE) and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.
It is compatible with both, Android phones as well as iPhone. It also packs in Gyroscope, Accelerometer and ALS. It is IP67 certified, but it is not recommended for swimming or diving. The overall performance of the LG Watch Style is as expected from a watch of its calibre.
