The size of laptops is now shrinking by the day. Portability is the need of the day. Ultra-books are selling in large numbers and manufacturers are laughing their way to the bank. Lenovo Ultra books are defined by their form-factor with small displays ranging from 10.1” to 13.3” and weighing between 1.25 to 1.75 kg. There is one more variation to this setup. They are known as 2-in-1 notebooks. Lenovo Ideapad Miix 310 is one such device review.
It is set up like a regular laptop, but the display is a touch-screen and it can be separated from the keyboard. The lightweight and portable Miix 310 presents a number of usage scenarios on-the-go, from presentations to field productivity, the Miix 310 offers the best of both worlds with its portable form-factor and its ability to run full-featured applications makes this is an ideal productivity and entertainment tool. The Lenovo Ideapad Miix 310 is available for a price of Rs. 15,990/- in online stores.
The Lenovo Ideapad Miix 310 is a lightweight and a feature-rich 2-in-1 notebook made of plastic which helps to keep the weight down. The 10.1” display is surrounded by a sturdy frame. The bezels are thick. They have to be since they have to provide structural integrity to the display when it is detached from the keyboard. The lid of the notebook is adorned with a matte silver finish. It carries the Lenovo branding on the lid. Near the top edge of the lid sits the 5.0-megapixel primary camera. On the inside, the display is bordered by a black strip of plastic running all around the frame.
This reinforces the tablet part of the laptop. The full-size keyboard is Chiclet style. The keys are nice and chunky with a decent amount of travel. The Lenovo Ideapad Miix 310 sports two USB 2.0 ports, one micro-USB port, one micro-HDMI port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The two USB ports feature a hinged jaw design in order to keep the slim form of the base intact. Whenever a USB cable or drive is inserted into the port ‘opens up’ to accommodate the USB connection. The notebook also features a SIM card slot and microSD card slot. There is obviously no optical drive owing to the nature and the compact form-factor of the notebook.
The 10.1” IPS LCD display on the Lenovo Ideapad Miix 310 is touch-enabled and outputs at a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and a pixel density of 150 PPI. This resolution on a 10.1” screen is plenty sharp and is perfect for productivity tasks. The 16:10 is also perfect for playing games and watching movies, though there will be some letterboxing while watching HD and full HD -videos. But this is a good trade-off for those who want to get some real work done on this notebook.
The Touch sensitivity of the screen is responsive and touch is highly accurate. Overall, the display is an all-rounder with good saturation levels, brightness and contrast ratio with decent viewing angles.
The Lenovo Ideapad Miix 310 is powered by a 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom X5 Z8350 processor clocked at 1.33GHz with turbo boost up to 1.92GHz. Graphics are handled by an integrated Intel HD Graphics Processor. This is supported by 2GB DDR3 RAM and 32GB built-in eMMC storage. This can be increased to 64GB via the microSD card. For even more storage, an external HDD up to 1TB can be connected via the USB port. These specifications keep the notebook running smoothly. The touchscreen is really responsive and increases the utility of the notebook as a stand-alone tablet.
There are hardly stutters or lags, and if any are few and far between. The processor is specially built for portable devices and it is enough for the day-to-day usage and productivity tasks. The huge battery keeps this notebook running for close to 10 hours, which is an impressive feat considering that the Lenovo Ideapad Miix 310 features a touch-screen display, and makes this notebook truly ultra-portable.
