Karbonn is a home-grown brand specializing in low cost Android smartphones. But they also manufacture ultra-affordable feature phones for those people whose main use of the phone is for making calls.
The Karbonn K105S in one such phone. It is a no-frills, utilitarian device. The keypad on this one is reminiscent of the Nokia 1100 as they both have a raised membrane keys instead of clickable keys.

The Karbonn K105S features a classic candy bar design. The phone is built of plastic and in available in two finishes black and red and white and grey. A nice strip of colour runs around the edge of the phone, red on the black phone and grey on the white phone. This gives the phone a sleek look. The back is removable and gives access to the battery, the Dual SIMs and the expandable memory card slot.
On the front is a membrane covered alpha-numeric keypad which feels sleek to use. Additionally, there are two action keys, call answer and hang up keys, 4-direction navigation button and an Ok button which also acts as a shortcut for the torch light.The back side of the mobile is plain except for the 1.3 megapixel camera and the LED flash. There is no separate loudspeaker. The earpiece acts as the loudspeaker for calls, music and radio.
The Karbonn K105S has a 1.8 inch non-touch TFT display. The colours are good looking, but the display suffers from low contrast. The resolution is 128 x 160 pixels, and the display is bright enough for day-to-day usage. Sunlight legibility suffers because of the low contrast.
The primary camera on the Karbonn K105S is 1.3 megapixels which clicks photos of 1280 x 1024 pixels resolution. These are decent camera specs for a feature phone which costs less than Rs. 1,000/-.
The phone also sports an LED flash for low light photos. This camera is ideal for shooting casual photos. This being a feature phone, there is no front camera for clicking selfies or making video calls.
The Karbonn K105S works smoothly without any hiccups or hang-ups in day-to-day usage of the phone. The phone supports MP3 and video playback. Storage can be increased up to 8 GB courtesy of the microSD card slot. Built-in FM radio and torch light are some additional extras thrown in to increase the utility of the phone.
It is a dual SIM phone and both the SIMs work on GSM network. 3G and 4G networks are not supported. The 1050 mAh battery is removable and can easily be swapped out. This is advantageous in situations where access to a charger is not possible. Just put in a fresh battery and the phone is ready for work or play.

The Karbonn K105S is a feature phone made for calling with a few extra utilities and entertainment features. At its price point, it a great value for money and can easily become a secondary calling-only phone for people who require so. It also carries the brand value of Karbonn who have earned their market share. All-in-all this is a robust phone which is priced very attractively.
